Art show
celebrates creativity with do paper
Various
contemporary art forms inspired by the Vietnamese do (poonah) paper will be
showcased at
Titled Vu Dieu Cua
Giay (The Dance of Paper), the event will bring together calligrapher Le Quoc
Viet; a group of artists including Duong Linh, Huy An, Tien Quang, Yoyo and
Tran Hien who will display an art installation on do paper; and artisan
Nguyen Van Tam who will show traditional skills of making do paper.
Plenty of handmade
products made from do paper will also available at the event, which is being
organised by Zo Project, a non-governmental organisation.
The event will take
place between 5 and 8pm on March 9 at
Dong Ho paintings,
calligraphy and water colour paintings or for documenting about past
dynasties and family annals.

life of Chavez launched in Vietnam
The Venezuelan
Embassy in

latest activity in a global Venezuelan movement named “Places where Chavez
passed through” on the occasion of the 1st death anniversary of the

Talents will present two movies by leading female
A 2003 American
comedy-drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation
explores themes of loneliness, insomnia, existential ennui and culture shock
against the backdrop of a modern Japanese city.
A heartfelt comedy
directed by Lisa Cholodenko, The Kids Are All Right was described by The New
York Times as "a generous, nearly note-perfect portrait of a modern
family", while Entertainment Weekly called the movie "funny, smart
and sexy".
The screenings of
Lost in Translation and The Kids Are All Right will take place at 7.30pm on
Friday and 2pm on Saturday, respectively. The movies will be presented in
their original language with Vietnamese subtitles at Level 4,

Bong Sen
Traditional Song and Dance Theater announced they will host the monthly dance
performance “Lotus” starting March 5 at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House.
The performance
represents peace in Vietnamese villages, the spirit of Vietnamese people, and
lotus flowers. More than 100 dancers and artists including Vuong Linh, Dang
Hung, Anh Tan, Tuyet Mai, E Ban Tu and Nhat Trung from the Bong Sen Theater
will perform in the show.

Anh’s new book rockets to instant hit
Nguyen Nhat Anh’s
new book Chuc mot ngay tot lanh (have a nice day) has become a literary
sensation though the official release date is March 6. Tre Publishing House
is the publisher and copyright holder of the book.
In the first
edition, 35,000 softcover (VND99,000) and 3,000 hardcover copies (VND199,000)
have been ordered by distributors. One week prior to the release date, Tre
publisher printed another 15,000 copies in order to meet strong demand of
readers. Anh is a popular writer and some of his well-known books are Toi
thay hoa vang tren co xanh (I saw yellow flowers on the grass), Co hai con
meo ngoi ben cua so (Two cats by the window), and Ngoi khoc tren cay (crying
on the tree). His latest book Chuc mot ngay tot lanh is illustrated by
painter Do Hoang Tuong.
Set in a garden
with lovely characters such as dog Mom Ngan, mother Nai Se, pig Lo Noi, bro
Duoi Xoan and Canh Cut, the book is a combination of fable and fairy tale
styles filled with hilarious and surprising details.
“In addition to his

host international choir competition
The fourth
International Choir Competition is scheduled to take place from April 29 to
May 3 in Hoi An City, the central province of Quang Nam.
This year, the
participants can register to compete but can also just perform for the
audiences.
The competition is
organised into six groups, including A group for mixed choirs, B for male and
female choirs, C for chamber choir, G for youth choirs, S for sacred music
and F for folklore. Each competitor is allowed to compete in a maximum of
three of the groups.
Besides the
competition, the choral societies from domestic and foreign countries will
come together to perform at various places across Hoi An City such as
churches, libraries and parks.
The deadline for
registration to take part in the competition is December 1.
This is the third
time Hoi An has hosted the event. The third International Choir Competition
was held in the City in 2013 with the participation of 500 artists from 15
troupes around the world.

Bac Ninh
province to organise Red River Delta photo, music festival
Bac Ninh province
will host the 17th Red River Delta Photo Festival, from March 14-20 and the
2014 Northern Music Festival from April 3-5, according to the Bac Ninh
Provicial People’s Committee.
This year the photo
festival is themed, ‘Red River Delta homeland and people’, and will provide
an opportunity for photographers from Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Quang
Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thai Binh provinces, as well as Hai
Phong city, to display their pieces.
Photos are to be
inspired by the beauty of the land and people. They can also tell the story
of the region’s industrial and tourism development potential and the
scientific, technical and socio-economic achievements during the renewal
process. The event is to take place at the
The music festival
is set to take place at the Kinh Bac Cultural Centre in Bac Ninh city.
Artists from 25 regional provinces and cities will gather to exchange and
perform. A workshop on northern music will also held during the festival.

organised to promote this special heritage to domestic and international
