Vietnamese ships are rushing to the location where a seaplane on Sunday spotted what was suspected to be one of the doors of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
The debris was found floating near the reported crash site of the ill-fated Malaysian jet, some 80 kilometers south of Tho Chu island in the Gulf of Thailand, the same area where oil slicks were spotted Saturday.
The Vietnam’s DHC 6 seaplane took a photograph of the floating debris at 18:30 local time on Saturday, but the picture was unclear due to darkness.
The Vietnamese ships are expected to reach the floating debris this morning to confirm whether it is a door of the aircraft that went missing early Saturday.
Vietnamese search and rescue authorities have informed their Singaporean and Malaysian of the suspected object. Vietnam also sent more ships and helicopters to search at the site early Monday.
More than two days after the flight MH370 went missing, the final minutes before its disappearance remained a mystery.
The Malaysia Airlines plane MH370 has been reported to crash 53 nautical miles (275km) off the island, which is located 85 nautical miles (153km) off Ca Mau – Vietnam’s southernmost province.
It was carrying 239 people, including 227 passengers and 12 crew when it disappeared on Saturday around 1:30 am Malaysian time (1730 GMT Friday), about one hour after leaving Kuala Lumpur for Beijing, AFP reported.
Vietnam and other Asian countries have mobilized many ships, choppers, and aircraft to conduct a search and rescue mission in an attempt to find the Malaysia Airlines jetliner.
But neither plane wreckage nor casualties have been reported so far.
