Summer heat closes Cat Bi Airport runway

The cracks in the tarmac were found
by airport staff at 3pm May 28 after the departure of a Vietjet Air flight.
The Civil Aviation Administration of
Vietnam (CAAV) sent technicians to inspect the runway and decided to halt all
further flights until the damage could be repaired.

normal by mid-afternoon on May 29.
Vu Duy Mat, deputy director of Cat
Bi Airport, told DTiNews the concrete/asphalt tarmac had lower
heat-resistance than more modern runways and cracked in the ongoing heat
wave.
The CAAV is conducting further
inspections to ensure all Cat Bi Airport facilities are safe.
