Spectators were excited to watch
various robots dance in sync with music in an annual competition on Friday at
a major higher education institution in southern Vietnam.
Nearly
40 teams of undergraduates in robotics and mechatronics at the Ho Chi Minh
City University of Technology and Education showcased their robots in Dancing
Robot at their school.
The
machines were required to have an acceptable appearance, stand on their feet
while moving their arms with ease to imitate human dancing.
Each
robot danced first based on programmed patterns and then created their own
choreograph in reaction to a mixture of different musical genres like
electronic music and bolero, a slow-tempo type.
“We
ourselves designed the robot, created sequences of dancing movements, ran
tests, and failed six times before eventually finding the optimal structure
for it,” said Nguyen Duc Cuong, a junior.
“Now
our robot can perform lots of dances virtually without falling down. The
nice-looking decorations it wears make its dance steps more interesting.”
Six
robots were selected for the international dancing contest at the school by
the end of this year.
