Tropical Storm Dianmu has
left one dead injured four others in northern Vietnam, following its landfall
in on Friday afternoon.
The storm
hit Hai Phong City and Thai Binh Province in northern Vietnam at 2:00 pm, two
hours earlier than forecasted.
According to
the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, strongest winds
near the eye of the storm in the two localities reached 60 - 90kph.
The deceased
hailed from Sop Cop District in the northern province of Son La, the Control
and National Committee for Search and Rescue said Friday.
The tempest
also injured three in Hanoi and one in the northern province of Vinh Phuc,
the rescue center added.
Dianmu has
knocked down 11 houses in Quang Ninh Province and submerged 36 buildings in
Son La. It also unroofed 33 houses in Hanoi, Dien Bien, and Quang Ninh.
The storm
has destroyed 59 hectares of vegetables in Quang Ninh and Son La and uprooted
135 trees in Hanoi.
Pham Van
Xuyen, deputy chairman of Thai Binh People’s Committee, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that no major
damages were recorded in the province.
“However,
serious consideration should be put into the 5,000 hectares of newly raised
rice plants to prevent them from being destroyed,” he added.
In Nam Dinh,
most vegetable plantations and fish cages had no major damage, said Bui Si
Son, deputy director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural
Development.
Tropical
Storm Dianmu started weakening at 7:00 pm on Friday, and eventually dissipated
en route to the northern mountainous later the same day, according to the
National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
However,
severe rainfall as high as 200 millimeters, flash floods, and landslides are
highly anticipated in northern mountainous areas this weekend, the center
warned.
