Image: VNA Around half of Vietnamese workers are engaged in low-productivity, agricultural activities and informal jobs account for about 70% of the total work, the International Labour Organisation in Vietnam reported on October 22. The ILO report also recognised Vietnam ’s great achievements in implementing the unemployment insurance programme, adopting the initiative on the social welfare floor. ILO representative Phu Huynh, an author of the report, emphasised the close relationship between employment and educational attainment. Workers in informal sectors are not as qualified as those in formal ones. Most of people with tertiary education are formally employed, while a majority of those with lower level work informally, he said. Mr. Huynh also suggested that Vietnam pay attention to developing workers’ skills and boosting stable employment. Vocational training institutions need to focus on subjects and skills that meet businesses’ demand, he said. (VNA)
