A 50-year-old woman of
Nguyen Thi Ha Luong, who lived in the city’s Phu Nhuan District died at 10 am Sunday when the paraglider she was flying suddenly crashed into a mountain in the Hon Hong area in Hoa Thang Commune. Luong belonged to a group of five tourists who were flying paragliders at that time there. According to initial investigations, Luong failed to control the speed of her paraglider, causing it to hit a mountain cliff, said Bien Xuan Phuong, head of the commune police. Luong’s relatives have brought her body back to HCMC for burial, Phuong said. A paraglider is a non-motorized, foot-launched inflatable wing. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below a hollow fabric wing whose shape is formed by its suspension lines, the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing and the aerodynamic forces of the air flowing over the outside. Despite not using an engine, paraglider flights can last many hours and cover long distances.
