Vietnamese-born conceptual artist Danh Vo has recently won this year’s Hugo Boss Prize.
“Vo’s installation deftly intermingles autobiography with larger cultural narratives of migration, history and identity. He allows poetic new connotations to emerge through the careful staging of meticulously selected images, objects and documents,” the prize’s website said of the artist.
Born in 1975 in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Vo has resided in Los Angeles since 2006, but is currently living and working in Berlin. He has shown his works at museums and galleries around the world, including at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The annual prize, which was founded in 1996, gives a monetary award of $100,000 to honor the best contemporary artists from every age in all art fields around the world. It has been administered by the worldwide nonprofit Guggenheim Foundation and sponsored by Hugo Boss clothing company.
Besides the monetary award, Vo’s artwork will be displayed at an exhibition at the Solomon R.Guggenheim Museum in New York next year.
