Farmers in Mekong Delta, known as Vietnam’s rice bowl as it annually produces three harvests, are already beginning to harvest the winter-spring rice.

Around 5,600 hectares of ripe rice grown at Co Do farm (now Co Do Ltd. Company) in southern Vietnam’s Can Tho Mekong Delta city needs to be harvested to meet strict deadline. Due to a lack of combine harvesters, farmers have to work on paddy fields from early morning to 10pm per day.

Co Do farm said they expect to produce an output of 37,000 tons of rice this year. Jasmine rice is sold at VND6,000 per kilogram, down VND1,000 compared to the same period last year, but farmers earn an interest of VND1,000 per kilogram after excluding all fees.
