Police in Ho Chi Minh City have proposed that the local prosecutor’s office prosecute six members of a high-class prostitution ring involving beauties, models and students that was uncovered last year.
The six are former Miss South Mekong 2009 Vo Thi My Xuan, 30; Tran Quang Mai, 42; Nguyen Huu Dat, 44; Le Quang Tuan Anh, 25, former runner-up of the 2012 Shining Beauty Contest; Tran Thi Hoa, 27 – also known as Thien Kim; and Luong Quoc Huy, 28.
They would be indicted for charges of prostitution brokerage.
Most of the models and beauty queens involved in the ring had solicited themselves for prices starting at US$2,500, investigators said.
According to the case file, on June 2, 2012, police conducted surprise raids at two major hotels in the city center and caught four high-class prostitutes having sex with their wealthy clients.
From the testimonies of these sex workers, police later arrested the above-named prostitution brokers, but released Hoa on bail due to her late-term pregnancy.
Mai later confessed to police that she had received a phone call from a man who said he wanted to be sexually served by a model named J.P. in a hotel in District 1. He also said he needed another girl for his friend.
Mai and the man agreed that he would pay J.P US$2,500 and the other girl VND5 million.
That same day Mai sent two more models to another hotel in District 1 to service clients for US$3,000.
Besides the two cases that were discovered by police, Xuan and Mai confessed that their ring had acted as agents for many models and beauty queens to solicit themselves for exorbitant prices.
The pimps also procured students for clients at a fee ranging from $300 to 600 per encounter.
The sex workers only kept about half of the money for themselves while the brokers took the rest.
According to investigators, even in a case where a model was paid $7,000, she actually pocketed just $1,000. The remaining $6,000 was shared among the brokers, with Mai receiving $1,500 plus a tip of $300.

Xuan is a native of the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang. She defeated 170 contestants to win a local beauty pageant to become Miss Soc Trang 2009, also known as Miss South Mekong. Meanwhile, Hoa defeated many rivals to become the runner-up at the Miss Shining Beauty 2012 pageant.
However, besides acting as sex brokers for commissions, Xuan and Hoa also sold themselves through each other or through other brokers, investigators said.
There was a case in which Xuan served a man arranged by May in her rented house in District 2 for $2,200, investigators said.
In June 2011 Mai asked Anh to act as broker for actress K.N.T. to serve a man in Vung Tau for US$2,500, of which Mai pocketed US$1,300.
In March 2012, Mai sent a model, T.K, to a hotel to have sex with a man for US$2,500, while Xuan, through the brokerage of Hoa and Mai, sold herself to a man in Vung Tau for $2,500, of which $1,000 was paid as a brokerage fee for the two agents.
Also in the month, Hoa received VND18 million ($865) as after arranging for a model named J.P to solicit herself in a hotel room on Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, for VND30 million.
