Woman survives after 3 days soaked in mud
A female employee of a Ho Chi Minh City court was found and rescued on Thursday in a canal in the city’s Can Gio District after being reported missing three days earlier.
The victim was 45-year-old Bui Thi Ngoc Thu, an accountant at the Can Gio District People’s Court, who lives in the district's Can Thanh Town.
Thu who was found lying unconsciously in a swallow canal surrounded with bushes on Rung Sac Street in An Thoi Dong Commune on March 7 by some locals who had heard her weak cries for help.
Most of Thu’s body was covered with the canal's mud, except her head that was pillowed with a briefcase, said locals, who had got the victim out of the canal.
Thu was so exhausted that she could not move, and many parts of her body swell up and had many red spots resulted from bites of ants and other insects, witnesses said.
A motorbike, which was later known to be owned by Thu, was also found near the place where Thu was lying.
Locals informed Thu's family of the incident at the phone number she gave them. They also reported the case to police, who later came to the scene for investigation.
After being given first aid, Thu was taken by an ambulance.to Nguyen Tri Phuong hospital for treatment.
After undergoing a surgery, Thu is being cared at the hospital’s intensive care unit, doctors said.
In talking with Tuoi Tre yesterday afternoon, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Xe, head of the traffic police team in Can Gio, said, “According to an initial investigation, Thu fell herself into the canal when she was driving her motorbike on that road.”
Yesterday night many people visited Thu’s family to learn about what had happened to Thu.
Bui Thi Chin, Thu’s elder sister, said, “On the morning of March 5, Thu told me she would go to the HCMC People’s Court to do some paper works. As she did not return home that evening, I phoned her many times but could not contact her.
"The next day we still failed to contact with Thu through phone, so we called both the district court and the city court for help, but the agencies could not find her anywhere. Therefore, we reported the case to police."
