500 antique lamps presented to Quang Nam
Young collector Le Cong Anh Duc in HCM City died before
realizing his dream of establishing a private museum. His family
presented a collection of nearly 500 ancient lamps to the district of
Dien Ban in Quang Nam province. The lamps were exhibited during the
Quang Nam Heritage Festival (June 22-26).
Le Cong Anh Duc was
born in 1970 in Hanoi and lived in Ho Chi Minh City but his hometown is
Dien Ban district. Duc began collecting antiques, particularly lamps at
the age of 22.
After overseas business trips, Duc brought old
lamps home. He dreamed of establishing a private museum displaying
ancient lamps. However, that dream was not realized because Duc died
after a traffic accident in 2002.
In 2011, Duc’s father - Le Cong
Chiem - donated Duc’s collection of more than 500 ancient lamps to the
museum of Dien Ban District. 190 intact lamps were on display during the
Quang Nam Heritage Festival. The most unique artifacts are two lamps of
2 m high.
