BBC to air Vietnam specials next month

The BBC World News is scheduled to air from Aug 19 to 31 a
series called “
The highlights of the show, produced by BBC’s unrivalled
reporter network, include “One square mile - Da Nang”, in which reporter
Karishma Vaswani provides a deeply moving reportage on the Vietnamese
families with two generations suffering the highest concentration of dioxin
in the world.
In the program, Vaswani also learns about a major Agent Orange
clean-up project jointly launched by the Vietnamese and US governments, and
meets the movers and shakers behind the drive to turn
Another of the show’s highlights, “Working lives”, features
BBC reporter and presenter Justin Rowlatt’s meetings with five local workers
from across the income bracket, including the female CEO of Vinamilk, a local
dairy giant, a 96-year-old instructor of “dan tranh” (16-chord zither) and
the new university graduates desperately seeking hi-tech jobs.

In “Click”, another of BBC World News’ flagship shows on
hi-tech, reporter LJ Rich learns about the technologies to improve the
performance of motorbikes, locals’ main mode of transport, and make them
theft-proof.
Throughout the show, BBC Chief Business Correspondent Linda
Yueh will also interview those who have shaped the country’s business from
July 19 to 23.
The programs will be broadcast at different times on Aug 24
and broadcast again on Aug 25 and will also be available on bbc.com.
According to Nguyen Van Tinh, head of the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism’s International Cooperation Department, as the project to
promote Vietnam on BBC programs, which is partnered by the ministry and the
BBC Asia Pacific, has been stalled due to financial reasons, the “Vietnam
Direct” series plays a crucial role in promoting the country’s friendly,
modern and dynamic image.
