Vietnamese students
excel at International Math Olympiad
All six members of the Vietnamese
team achieved positive results at the recent 54th International Mathematics
Olympiad (IMO) 2013 held in Colombia.
Two 12th graders, Can Tran Thanh
Trung from the High School for the Gifted Students under the Vietnam National
University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) and Vo Anh Duc
from Ha Tinh High School for Gifted Students in Ha Tinh province won gold
medals. Pham Tuan Huy, an 11th grader from the High School for the Gifted
under VNU-HCM, also took gold.
Three other members of the Vietnam
national team to the IMO earned silver medals. They are Hoang Do Kien from Vinh Phuc High School for Gifted Students in Vinh Phuc
province, Tran Dang Phuc from High School for the Gifted Students under the
Hanoi University of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam
National University
and Dinh Le Cong from High School for the Gifted Students under the Vinh University,
in Nghe An province.
Held in Colombia from July 18-28, this
year’s competition attracted students from 97 high schools around the world.
The competitors were tested in their knowledge of algebra, real and complex
analytics, combinatorial mathematics and geometry.
