Photo credit: Tuoi Tre Police in Ho Chi Minh City have identified 10 accident-prone spots with the highest number of traffic related deaths, asking the public to take extra caution.  Most accidents at these locations involved speeding, driving on the wrong lane and illegal crossing, according the city's Police Department.  The latest list of “black spots” has been shortened, from 28 locations last year, Tuoi Tre reported. Black spots are defined by the Ministry of Transport as road or waterway sections where at least two fatal accidents occur per year. Only one old spot remains in this year's list, the An Suong Intersection in District 12. The nine new spots comprise a waterway junction near the Binh Loi Bridge and eight on roads. These include two intersections of Vo Van Kiet Street in District 1’s Co Giang and Cau Kho Ward where a number of fatal accidents have been attributed to speeding. District 2 has three dangerous spots, all located around the My Thuy Intersections between Dong Van Cong and the East Beltway. Two other spots are on Hong Bang Street, with one near the Cay Go Roundabout and the other at the corner of Hong Bang and Hoang Le Kha. The final spot is the Thu Duc Intersection in District 9 with heavy traffic of container trucks. The city police have instructed traffic police unit to improve safety at these spots by stepping up patrol and handling violations strictly. Last year, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 4,321 traffic accidents, which killed 723 people and injured 4,029. Police issued fines against 527,748 drivers and revoking licenses of more than 72,000.
