-- The 10th session of the 13th National Assembly of Vietnam
ended in Hanoi on Friday after more than one month of sitting, with 16 laws
and several resolutions adopted and 10 draft laws considered.
-- Vietnam strongly objects to the use of or threat to use
force against its boats and vessels, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le
Hai Binh said on Friday in response to the press’s question about Vietnam’s
reaction to reports that some Chinese coast guard and military ships
surrounded and threatened to use force against the Vietnamese supply ship Hai
Dang 05 off Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago on November 13, 2015.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on Friday sentenced Vu
Quoc Hao, 60, ex-general director of the Finance Leasing Company No. 2
under the State-owned Vietnam Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development, to
death on charges of embezzlement and deliberately acting against the State’s
regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences. This
was the second death sentence on Hao following one in September 2014 on
embezzlement charges.
-- Police in Ho Chi Minh on Friday arrested eight people who
allegedly belonged to a nine-member gang that robbed passengers on buses on the
routes between the city and provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region
for years, following an exposé article published by Tuoi Tre (Youth)
newspaper on November 16.
-- After 22 months of construction, the US$38.3 million
Long Binh Bridge that links the southern Vietnamese province of An
Giang and the Cambodian province of Kandal has basically been completed and
is expected to be put into operation before the coming Tet (Lunar New Year)
that will fall on February 8, 2016.
-- Cold Flood Prevention Aps, a Danish company, on Friday
conducted a test on its product that can prevent flooding caused by the high
tide at the Phu Dinh Port in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. The product is a
system consisting of PVC parts connected to each other to form a rectangle
that is 30 meters long and 15 meters wide.

-- Nikken Sekkei Ltd., a Japanese architecture firm, has
won the second prize of the architectural contest to choose the best design
for the city’s new downtown administrative hub, which will occupy an area of
over 18,000 square meters in District 1, the municipal Department of Planning
and Architecture reported. No candidate won the first prize of the contest.
-- Vietnam is becoming the world’s largest exporter of
scooters manufactured by Honda Vietnam Co., Ltd. (HVN), with about 130,000
products worth US$340 million expected to be shipped out this year, said HVN
general director Minoru Kato at a meeting held on Friday to launch a new Air
Blade model.
Education
-- The Center of Korean Studies and Sejong King Institute were
inaugurated at the Can Tho University in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on
Friday, with an aim to strengthen cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the
Republic of Korea, popularize the Korean teaching and learning, and supply
Korean-proficient manpower to the regional labor market.
