A small outlet specializing
in the Vietnamese dish 'bun cha' (rice noodles with grilled pork and
meatballs) has been packed since U.S. President Barack Obama stopped by for
dinner this week.
Despite
heavy rains on the two days since his visit to the eatery, local residents,
foreign tourists and media have flocked to the Huong Lien 'bun cha' outlet at
24 Le Van Huu Street in Hai Ba Trung District to 'explore' the Hanoi delicacy
that attracted the president on his first night in the Vietnamese capital.
Photos
showing the president and American chef Anthony Bourdain sitting on the
eatery’s plastic chairs, enjoying the dish and drinking beer have gone viral
on social media.
Although
the president has already finished up his trip in Vietnam, diners hoping to
try out the restaurant's now famous dish are facing the tough decision
between waiting over an hour for a seat or leaving in disappointment before
even trying the dish, which has since been dubbed 'bun cha Obama.'
Despite the eatery’s new-found fame, the owner says she is committed to not
raising her prices, although the crowds have forced her to invest in a
microphone to be heard when diners are placing orders.
President
Obama began his first visit to Vietnam on Monday and concluded it on
Wednesday.
