The article stressed that the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang was a success, adding that Vietnam made efforts to secure the event by deploying 2,800 security officers. All APEC member economies, including Indonesia, were in favour of Vietnam’s APEC theme and initiatives on economic integration, it said. It noted that the Vietnamese economy is thriving, with exports recording continuous growth. The country has attracted a large amount of foreign capital thanks to its commitments to free trade, globalisation and economic reform. The paper said Vietnam is undergoing a transformation from an agricultural country to an export-oriented economy and a country of industrialisation and modernisation. The nation’s progress in poverty alleviation has been shown in the reduction of poverty rate from 58.1 percent in 1993 to 7 percent in 2015. The article concluded that Vietnam is emerging as a global investor and a ‘new star’ in Asia.
