Nguyen Hue Flower Street receives over 1 mln visitors

During the week-long Tet (Lunar New Year festival), the Nguyen Hue Flower Street in Ho Chi Minh City received more than 1 million visitors.

The figure was released by Tran Hung Viet, general director of Saigontourist, which designed the flower street, to Thoi Bao Kinh Te Sai Gon (The Saigon Times) on Wednesday.

The number of visitors to the event this year is equivalent to that of last year, and many people remained on the flower street, in District 1, until 2 or 3 am everyday, Viet said.

The flower street operated around the clock with about 120,000 pots of flowers of more than 100 varieties.

The 700-meter long flower street with the theme “Vietnam, My Homeland” was built with a total investment of about VND7 billion (US$336,000), Viet said.

All the structures and facilities installed on the street for displaying flowers have remained intact thanks to the visitor’s awareness to protect public property, Viet said.

There were 8-12 children who got lost everyday on the flower street but all of them were kept, cared for and then returned to their relatives by the event’s security guards, he said.

Compared with the same event during the last Tet, this year saw far fewer pick-pocketing cases, he added.

It is scheduled that the cleaning up of the flower street be completed this morning.

All the facilities used for displaying flowers will be brought to tourist centers such as Binh Quoi and Thanh Da.
