Many newswires in Vietnam attacked
Tuoi Tre

Readers couldn’t or found it difficult to access several major newswires like VietnamNet.vn, Tuoitre.vn, Dantri.com.vn and Kenh14.vn in Vietnam from July 3 to 7 (today).
By July 6, readers could access Tuoitre.vn, Vietnamnet.vn, and Dantri.com.vn but the speed on these sites was slow.
Vo Do Thang, director of Internet security and training center Athena, said it is most likely that hackers used distributed denial of service (DDOS) by bombarding the websites because these websites had very high traffic.
There would be bigger economic losses if Internet banking services and credit card payment gateways were hit by such DDoS attack, he added.
DDoS attack is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users, according to Wikipedia. Meanwhile, eSecurityPlanet said in a DDoS attack, the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources – potentially hundreds of thousands or more.
