Helicopters and 2,000 participate in earthquake response exercise (photo)
Nearly 2,000 people from army corps, state agencies, organizations and people from all social strata participated in a large-scale earthquake response exercise on August 27 in the central province of Quang Nam.
The exercise took place on the morning of August 27, held by the Military Zone 5 High Command and the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee in Bac Tra My district of Quang Nam Province. This was the largest exercise so far with the participation of nearly 2,000 people.
The situation assumed in this exercise is at 6:30 am on August 28, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale occurred in Bac Tra My district and some neighboring areas of Quang Nam, making the collapse of many offices, houses and killing 50 people, injuring 120 others. Immediately, the armed forces of the Military Zone 5 and the doctors and nurses of the Military Hospital17, the Quang Nam General Hospital and volunteers of the Red Cross were involved in rescuing victims.
Doctors of the Military Hospital 17 urgently built emergency tents at the scene.
They bandaged and gave first aid for injured victims.
A minor surgery station was also set up in the earthquake area.
In urgent situations, the Military Zone 5 mobilized two Mi-17 helicopters to the earthquake area to rescue victims.
Helicopters transported medicines and food for people in distress.
Rescuers, policemen of Quang Nam province helped people clean the house, searched for people buried under rubble.
Fixing the power for the residential areas after natural disaster.
The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Nam received, named and marked the dead in the earthquake to hand over to their families for burial. The objective of this exercise is to check and assess the leadership and management ability of the local authorities and the related forces at all levels, the coordination among relevant forces and contribute to raising public awareness of measures to response to any earthquake.
