Vietnam’s August CPI sees strong rise Illustrative image (Source: VNA) The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose in August by 7.5 percent year-on-year and grew 0.83 percent from July, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on August 24.  Ten out of the 11 goods categories experienced price rises between 0.22 and 4.11 percent, with the highest hike hitting medicine and healthcare and the lowest price increase affecting household commodities. Head of the GSO’s Price Statistics Nguyen Duc Thang said that two petrol price adjustments in June and one in July had resulted in a 0.08 percent increase in the CPI. The price of food rose due to the heavy and consecutive rainstorms nationwide, he said. Prices of education services saw a month-on-month surge of 0.9 percent as tuition fees for the new school year were increased in several cities and provinces.  This month, the price of gold also saw a slight increase while the USD price was stable, standing at 21,036 VND/USD.-VNA
