Political News 14/10 UK asked to support VN community The Vietnamese community in the United Kingdom needs to hold high the spirit of unity and support for Viet Nam in regard to significant developments in the homeland. Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat Le Hong Anh, made this remark at a meeting with Luong Son Thanh, chairman of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in the UK, and other representatives of the Vietnamese expatriate community in London last Friday, the start of Anh's working visit to the UK which ended yesterday. He said Vietnamese expatriates in the UK and elsewhere were always considered an important component of the country's unity bloc, and informed them that concerned Vietnamese agencies were carefully and thoroughly examining expatriates' proposals and opinions from around the world to make prompt policy adjustments. Anh added that peaceful measures must be used to implement the policy of safeguarding national sovereignty over seas and islands in line with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982 and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). For his part, Thanh pledged that the expatriate community would join hands with compatriots at home in the nation-building process and the protection and promotion of national sovereignty. Bac Ninh officials study Singapore’s administration experience Officials from northern Bac Ninh province are attending a training programme on public administration, leadership and human resources management, provided by Singapore. At the opening ceremony of the course on October 13, Tran Van Tuy, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, said Bac Ninh has opted to study Singapore’s developmental experience since it embarked on a smart city development scheme. Guo Sam Nan, Deputy Director of the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration under the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, which provided the course, said Bac Ninh is the second Vietnamese locality, after Quang Ninh, to have the bilateral cooperative programme with the centre. Training areas cover public administration, public governance, leadership, human resources management and urban planning. In addition, lectures on how to attract foreign investment and how to manage industrial parks will be on offer, participated not only by professors but also former government officials. Site visits to difference governmental organisations will form part of the course, aiming to give Bac Ninh officials a comprehensive view of Singapore experience, Guo Sam Nan said. The training programme, the second of its kind designed for Bac Ninh province, will end on October 17. The Nanyang Centre for Public Administration trained 300 Vietnamese State, municipal and provincial officials over the past three years. NA Chairman launches new school year at Police Academy National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on October 13 attended a ceremony launching the 2014-2015 academic year at the Hanoi-based People’s Police Academy. With over 1,200 staff members, the academy has enrolled more than 40,000 undergraduates and postgraduates since its inception in 1968. In the new school year, it receives more than 1,000 freshmen, nearly 400 postgraduates and over 400 officers from Vietnam and other countries. Congratulating the academy on its outstanding achievements, Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed the utmost importance of guaranteeing political stability, national security, and social order and safety in the national construction and defence. VFF leader tours high-profile enterprises President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan on October 13 toured several high-profile companies in Hanoi and the northern province of Bac Giang, on the occasion of the Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day. The companies include the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), FPT Group, Son Ha International Corporation, and GOC Food Processing Export JSC in Bac Giang. During the tours, President Nhan praised their performances, with Vinatex becoming one of the top five textile exporters globally, and FPT leading the nation in software processing and export. The same day, Nhan held a working session with the Young Entrepreneurs’ Association which started out 21 years ago and now has 67 chapters across the country. Addressing the members, the VFF leader said he continues to trust young entrepreneurs, and vowed to assist them on their path to development.
