BINH DUONG (VNS) - Authorities have requested the Long Binh primary school to suspend provision of lunch to its students following suspicions that contaminated food was being supplied to the school canteen.
Announcing this, Deputy Head of Bau Bang District's education and training department Nguyen Tuan Tu said that the case was being investigated.
Other schools that provide lunch to students are also being instructed to inspect their food supplies and processing methods, he added.
As many as five schools in the district have signed contracts with Nhat Phu Hao Ltd, a company specialising in food delivery.
Nhat Phu Hao Ltd's head office is in Binh Duong Province's Tan Uyen Township, but it leases the Long Binh primary school canteen for the cooking of food.
The primary school has 774 pupils, of which 650 have registered for the lunch at school.
The contaminated food was identified to be 72kg of spoiled fish and 12kg of spoiled meat.
The food was intercepted while it was being transported to the Long Binh primary school canteen on Thursday, when students' parents detected a foul odour. Then they asked the relevant authorities to prepare a report for further investigation of the case.
An inspection team from the district's authorities tested and sealed off the suspected food, and then later destroyed it.
The company that supplied food to Nhat Phu Hao Ltd said that the meat and fish were spoiled as they had been transported over a long distance.
However, the parents of the students in the primary school rejected the explanation.
On Tuesday morning, the Long Binh primary school's management board spoke to the parents for restarting the lunch for students, but the talks failed due to parents' objections. They oppose the serving of lunch to students till the school management board clarifies who was to be blame for the supply of contaminated food. - VNS
