probed for stealing 1,250 chickens meant for poor farmers
Twenty-two officials of a commune in central
The
chickens, worth VND25 million (US$1,170) and paid by the government, were
supposed to be given to poor farmers in Que Son District’s Que An Commune of Quang
Ngai Province, news website Dan
Tri reported.
According to the complaints by local
farmers, Hoang Kim Minh, the chairman of Que An Commune People’s Committee,
kept the most chickens, with 200.
Tran Van Quyen, the commune’s Party chief,
and Tran Ngoc, the chairman of the commune’s Farmers Association, and 19
others stole 50 chickens each.
The government of Que Son District on
Thursday ordered the agricultural office to investigate the case.
It said the case had stirred outrage among
local farmers.
