Man loses hand in brutal street fight in Ho Chi Minh
City

A young man has had his hand
chopped off, and another has been severely injured in a violent motorbike
chase in Ho Chi Minh City.
A fight
broke out at around 8:40 pm on Sunday in front of a gas station in Go Vap
District.
A group of
eight youths riding on four motorbikes were reported by witnesses to have
been on Pham Van Chieu Street when two other motorbikes carrying four people
approached them from behind at high speed.
One of the
chasers drew a homemade machete and slashed continuously at the head of 18-year-old
Nguyen Van Phong, a member of the first group.
The victim
instinctively raised his arms to protect his head from the attacks, and had
his hand chopped clean off in the process
The attacker
then turned to the victim’s friend, Bui Hoang Thien Phuong, who was trying to
protect his friend from the ferocious strikes, slashing him multiple times
until Phuong fell to the ground.
Another
member of the first group then reportedly turned around and kicked the
machete from the hands of the assailant, who then quickly drove from the
scene with his gang.
Onlookers
immediately soaked Phong’s severed hand in ice and drove the two victims to
hospital for medical aid.
Go Vap
Police arrived at the site shortly after to investigate the incident and
interview witnesses.
Phong, a
witness at the scene, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper the assault was so
violent that nobody dared to intervene.
