Gallup Inc, which released the poll, asked about 1,000 people in each of 148 countries last year if they were well-rested, had been treated with respect, smiled or laughed a lot, learned or did something interesting and felt feelings of enjoyment. Only 59 percent of those polled in Vietnam said yes to all five while 46 percent of those surveyed in Singapore – a country that has been ranked as the least emotional nation in the world – said the same thing. Singapore is thus the least positive country in the world. Globally, Vietnam stands at Number 28 in terms of least positive countries/territories. Seven countries and territories having the same ‘positive level’ with Vietnam are Central African Republic, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Algeria, Iran, Russia, Bosina and Herzegovina, and Palestine Territories. In the Southeast Asia region alone, Thailand (83%) and the Philippines are the two happiest nations (82%) closely followed by Laos (72%) and Cambodia (66%). The world's happiest people are in Latin America with eight countries being listed in the top 10. This recent report contrasts with a BVA-Gallup poll released in early 2011 that showed the Vietnamese were the most optimistic in the world about economic outlook. More than 70 percent of the Vietnamese people joining that survey believed 2011 would be a year of economic prosperity for their country. Panama and Paraguay are the happiest nations in the world as 85 percent of those polled in those countries said they experienced positive emotions. Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Haiti are among least positive countries. The United States tied with China for the 33rd place with 76 percent of those surveyed said yes to all five questions. The poll's results are based on telephone and face-to-face interviews with 1,000 adults, aged 15 and older, conducted in 2011 in 148 countries and territories. TUOITRENEWS
