Motor taxis begins operating in Hanoi
With a view to meeting the increasing demand for travel of local people, a Hanoi-based company has piloted a transport service using motor taxis, which are motorbike taxis equipped with taximeters.
“Nam Minh Investment JSC has initially arranged 20 motor taxis around the Bach Mai Hospital to serve passengers there and areas nearby. After Tet [lunar New Year], we will expand the service to many other areas in the capital,” said Tran Dinh Bach, director of the company.
The fare is VND6,000 (US$0.29) per kilometer and from the 11th kilometer the charge is reduced to only VND4,000 per kilometer.
Drivers of Nam Minh motor taxis wear uniforms, and all the motor taxis are in blue and of the same brand and model.
The company’s logo and the telephone number for transport service are painted on every motorbike and on the drivers’ crash helmets.
The words “Motor taxi – Automated fare calculation” is shown both in the front and on the number plate of every bike.
Passenger can dial that telephone number to be served in the same way when they use taxis, Dinh Xuan Hoang, a motor taxi driver at Nam Minh, said, adding that he could earn an income of VND5 million ($240) per month.
Nguyen Van Thien, another driver, said that the company pays 40 percent of the total fare to drivers and give every driver a meal allowance of VND100,000 ($4.8) per day.
Many local people said they supported the new transport service since the fare is reasonable and the attitude of drivers is very good.
More important, drivers always comply with regulations on traffic safety while driving, passengers said.
