Dioxin detoxification at Danang Int’l Airport

The project to decontaminate the environmental pollution caused by dioxin left at the Danang International Airport after the war is currently underway.
The project, run by both the Vietnamese Defence Ministry and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with US$84 million provided by the US government and more than US$1.6 million in charter capital from Vietnam, is expected to finish by 2016.
USAID Vietnam Director Joakim Parker said the project has special meaning to the relationship between the two countries.
During the project’s first eight months, nearly 3,200 cubic metres of contaminated mud has been removed from the airport to a nearby drying ground in preparation for further treatment.
