HA NOI (VNS) - Thousands of households in the capital city of Ha Noi are living without fresh water after the water pipe from the Da River to Ha Noi broke again yesterday afternoon.
This is the fifth time the pipeline has ruptured since it was put into operation in 1997.
According to the Vinaconex Clean Water JSC under the Viet Nam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation, the pipe broke suddenly in Thach That District at 2pm yesterday.
The company cut the water supply and sent workers to fix the pipe. It would take two days to resume the water supply to the affected households, it said.
The cause of the break is yet to be ascertained.
Last year, the water pipe ruptured thrice in February, November and December at different points of the Thang Long Boulevard and Thach That District.
Up to 70,000 households in the districts of Hoang Mai, Thanh Xuan, Cau Giay, Tu Liem and Thanh Tri reportedly suffered a serious shortage of fresh water. It took several days to repair the pipe each time.
According to the company, the pipe broke because of the weak soil around it and its close proximity to the highway. - VNS
