-- Nearly 6,000 soldiers, militiamen, and civilians partook in the Thursday military parade, march and other ceremonies, which  took place in downtown Ho Chi Minh City in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Reunification Day on April 30.

-- Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Doanh of Air Regiment 937 confirmed with Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper on Thursday that the body of Captain Nguyen Anh Tu, the other of the two pilots of two Sukhoi Su-22 fighter jets that crashed off Phu Quy Island of the south-central Binh Thuan province during a training exercise in mid-April, was found on Wednesday afternoon. The remains of Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Nghia, who was vice commander of Air Regiment 937, was recovered on Tuesday.
-- A representative of Khai Nam Co., a local bus operator, on Thursday confirmed with Tuoi Tre that one of its buses en route to Phnompenh, Cambodia was involved in an accident on Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said the accident happened when the bus, which departed from Ho Chi Minh City and was carrying dozens of passengers, including a foreigner, careened uncontrollably into a densely vegetated slope. The accident seriously injured several kids and elderly passengers.
-- Gas companies in HCMC on Thursday announced a slight retail price hike of VND1,500 (US$0.005) per 12-kilogram gas cylinder from Friday on, pushing gas prices to between VND301,500 and VND310,000 ($14) per cylinder.
-- According to a member of the guard team at the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap, which nestles in Quang Trach District in the central province of Quang Binh, the place received over 33,000 visits on Wednesday and an estimated another 35,000 on Thursday, who came to pay tribute to the highly revered general.
-- The Cho Ray Oncology Center under the HCMC-based Cho Ray Hospital was inaugurated on Thursday. The 12-floor center has a total area of 21,000 square meters, and costs nearly VND429 billion ($19.8 million) to build.
-- According to the National Traffic Safety Committee office, 42 accidents, including 41 road accidents, occurred on Thursday, the Reunification Day, across the country. The accidents killed 17, injured 31 others, and left two missing. The day is part of the ongoing six-day public holiday.
Business
-- The Tinh Bien duty-free supermarket, located in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, has shut down. Business at the supermarket, along with its other counterparts in the areas bordering Cambodia, which used to be the most popular destinations to buy tax-free products, had ground to a standstill in recent times.
-- Several local banks have earned high revenues during the first quarter of this year thanks to more auspicious credit growth compared to previous years, according to bank representatives. The Vietnam Export Import Bank (Eximbank) reached a turnover of more than VND500 billion (US$23.3 million) within this year’s first quarter alone, and is expected to pocket VND2.4 trillion ($111.85 million) in turnovers during the entire 2015.
