ASEAN Ministers meet in Kuala Lumpur
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) commenced in
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended at the
event together with his counterparts from nine other ASEAN member states of
The ministers will discuss the establishment of an ASEAN
Community and its post-2015 vision and related documents together with the
progress towards the formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
As the kick-start for the 26 th ASEAN Summit between April 26
and 27, the AMM was held the same day with the 13 th ASEAN Economic Ministers
and EU High Commissioner for Trade (AEM-EU) Consultation Meeting, the 12 th
meeting of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council, the 11 th Meeting
of the ASEAN Coordinating Council and the ASEAN Leadership Forum.-

The region will press ahead with cooperative programmes with
the four Vietnamese localities for the shared borderline of peace, stability,
cooperation and development, he added.
After the conference, several cooperation documents were
signed, including the building of Hoanh Mo-Dong Zhong border gate and the
development of an economic border zone, between Quang Ninh and Lang Son, respectively,
with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

possible ways to boost trade promotion, expand export market, well control
import activities and ensure domestic production in accordance with
international practices and commitments.
Regarding tourism, the Government leader asked for a report
reviewing the implementation of the Government’s resolution on tourism
development in the next meeting.
He also stressed the importance of inflation control and
economic restructuring, with the focus on the equitisation of State-owned
enterprises.
The ministries, sectors and localities were requested to speed
up administrative reform, especially in administrative procedures, in order
to improve the business and investment climate, while effectively implementing
measures to ensure social welfare and gain sustainable poverty reduction,
particularly in extremely disadvantageous areas and those prone to disasters.
The PM emphasised the need to continuously strengthen security
and defence, maintain political security and social order and safety, and
actively combat all kinds of crime to ensure a peaceful life for people.
He also highlighted the importance of information sharing on
socio-economic affairs between the ministries and localities and press agencies
to create a concurrence among the society.

President meets outstanding naval staff
State President Truong Tan Sang met naval staff who excelled
in the force’s patriotic emulation movement in Hanoi on April 25, ahead of
the 60th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Navy (August 5).
On August 2 and 5, 1964, patrol boats from the Vietnamese
navy, in coordination with other forces, drove the US destroyer USS Maddox
and aircraft out of Vietnam’s territorial waters in the Tonkin Gulf, marking
the first victory for the northern army in the resistance war against the US
aggressors.
The August 5 was declared the traditional day of the navy.
In the era of renewal (doi moi), the navy has accomplished its
mission to safeguard sea and island sovereignty.
The force has worked as an advisor to the Party, State,
Central Military Commission and Defence Ministry in sea-related issues,
living up to its expectation as a source of support for fishermen working at
sea.
The President congratulated the navy on its 60th anniversary,
saying that it should build on its tradition to deal with problems arising
from complicated developments.
He also asked the force to protect fishermen, marine-based
economic activities, and scientific research.
With a vision of maintaining an environment of peace in line
with international law, the navy should build a modern and capable
revolutionary force while performing well on defence external relations both
