Vietnamese aviation authorities have decided to fine a famous singer and her husband VND4 million (US$183) each for letting their 4-year-old son urinate into an sickness bag instead of using the toilet on a Vietnam Airlines flight.
Le Quyen, 34, and her husband Le Duc Huy, a businessman, were found “violating order and discipline on a flight,” a lesser-known charge issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
The incident took place on July 16 when the Hanoi-born singer was travelling on the new Airbus A350-900, which had just been deployed on Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route.
According to CAAV, the plane was about to land at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi when Quyen let her son stand up on his seat next to hers and pee into the sickness bag.
Huy, who sat on the same row, held the bag for his son.
The chief attendant told Quyen and Huy that they would have to bring their son to the toilet but the couple pretended that they did not hear her, according to CAAV.
The crew members did not make any report on the case but a fellow passenger later recounted the incident in a post on his Facebook page, which has gone viral.
The post said that Quyen, who looked beautiful and fashionable, let her son pee into the bag and described how it caused "urine to splatter onto the plane's interior."
The post raised a furor among Vietnamese Facebook community, with many saying that the behavior was embarrassing and that this incident should be used to educate the public on proper etiquette.
