-- Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phung
Quang Thanh extended Wednesday his thanks to Director of the Russian Federal
Security Service (RFSS) General Bortnikov A.V, who is in Hanoi for an
official visit, for Russia’s support for Vietnam during the latter’s national
construction and defense process. At a meeting in the capital, General Thanh
expressed his belief that General Bortnikov’s visit will help boost the
relation and cooperation between the two countries.

-- A hailstorm struck the northern province of Lao Cai and lasted
for seven minutes on Wednesday. Five such weather phenomena have occurred in
the province since March 27. Hailstorms are a rare sight in Vietnam.
-- Authorities in the southern province of Binh Duong
discussed buiding a subway line that connects the locality to Ho Chi Minh City on
Wednesday.
-- Police swooped Wednesday on a gambling
ring in the northern province
of Hung Yen and arrested 28 gamblers.

Chi Minh City children aged 6 or above will be
subject to fines if they sit on a moving motorbike without wearing a crash

-- Vietnam has achieved lower annual
growth in export earnings since it was admitted to the World Trade
Organization in 2007, according to statistics released Wednesday by the
Central Institute for Economic Management. The institute said that the
country posted an average increase of 19.5 percent between 2007 and 2011
while its export revenue went up by an average of 21.5 percent during the
five years before the milestone 2007.
-- Signs of tax evasion has been found at a
Gucci – Milano store in Hanoi,
a local market management chief said Tuesday.
-- The State Bank of Vietnam
announced Wednesday a list of eight local banks that charge fees for internal
withdrawals at their ATMs: BIDV, Vietinbank, Vietcombank, Agribank,
Sacombank, SeABank, LienVietPost Bank, and Western Bank.
