Party chief vows to do best against corruption Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong meets with voters in Ba Dinh district. The Party and State will do everything possible to prevent and fight corruption, stated Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at his meeting with voters in Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, on September 27. He added that the prolonged and tough battle requires trust and determination. Meanwhile, voters proposed adopting a range of synchronous steps with a priority to forging a virtuous contingent of leadership staff. The Party chief assured them that the Resolution set at the fourth meeting of the 11th Party Central Committee is being implemented with a view to driving back interest groups and moral degradation among Party members and managerial officials. In response to suggestions on curtailing the upcoming sixth legislature’s sitting, Party leader Trong said the session is scheduled to last for 37 days, the longest ever during its tenure as legislators will have to pass a number of key laws, including the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution and the Land Law. During the sitting, the National Assembly will ratify 11 laws, comment on nine bills and talk about different issues. In regard to the confidence votes, the Party chief said the move is a new step in compliance with the Resolution on Party building, and it needs to be more perfect as a means to combat corruption. Touching on the revised draft Land Law, General Secretary Trong promised to rectify mistakes in site clearance and compensation. Voters suggested converting farmland, which is now predominantly occupied by households, into land for housing, making it easier for local people to settle down. They also called for stronger inspection to ensure law enforcement.-VNA
