Newly
elected NA deputies determined to fulfill responsibilities
317 of the 494 deputies in
the 14th National Assembly (NA) are first timers. They are proud of being
trusted by the voters and consider it a great responsibility to represent
them in the NA.
The election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly (NA)
and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure occurred on
May 22. 494 NA deputies were elected. 160 of them were deputies of the 13th
NA. 317 joined the parliament for the first time. The rest were NA deputies
in previous tenures.
Honor and Pride
It
is a great honor for the freshman deputies. Ms. Pham Thi Minh Hien, a NA
deputy for south-central Phu Yen province expressed her pride in being
elected. She said the election result showed the voters’ expectations for her
future contributions to the locality.
Ms
Trieu Thi Huyen, representing northern Yen Bai province, is one of youngest
deputies of the 14th NA. She felt honored to have won the election with 87%
of the votes, but said she understands the heavy responsibility deputies have
to represent the voters in the supreme body of State power during the 5-year
tenure of the 14th NA.
Mr.
Hoang Van Cuong, NA deputy for Hanoi, is keenly aware of his responsibility
to fulfill the trust and expectations of the voters.
"Being elected to the NA is my great joy because I won the voters’ trust. Sitting in the Parliament, I am fully aware of my responsibility to fulfill voters’ expectations. Like all the other deputies, I understand that we must fulfill our tasks with the highest determination and dedicate our hearts and minds to making people-oriented decisions.
Big responsibility in the first NA
session
The
NA deputies will spend 6 days in the first session reviewing and making
decisions on the organization and high-level staffing of the NA, State, and
Government under the Constitution and law.
The
deputies will also review the implementation of socio-economic development
and the State budget for the first half of 2016, and discuss solutions to
realize the socio-economic development plan and the State budget for the rest
of the year.
They
will also review and adopt the law-making program for 2017, an amendment to
the 2016 law-making program, and the NA oversight program for 2017.
In
order to fulfill his role and responsibility to the voters of the Mekong
delta, Mr. Tran Van Ron, a deputy for southern Vinh Long province said he had
carefully studied the NA’s working agenda and firmly grasped the status of
the locality.
"I have fully prepared for the meeting with voters to understand their issues and be responsive to them. I am determined to fulfill my responsibilities in the NA. The Vinh Long team and I are particularly interested in legislation."
Human
resources will be a key topic in this NA session. Ms. Pham Minh Hien, a
deputy for Phu Yen province said:"I’ll
represent the people in electing staff for key State and government bodies.
First of all I should believe that they understand the people’s wishes and
will make clear-sighted decisions to fulfill people’s aspirations,
particularly in socio-economic development."
Mr.
Trieu The Hung, a deputy for the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong said:
"The 13th NA was very successful. It
is a challenge to the 14th NA deputies. We shall continue all of their
activities and make them a success."
In
her opening speech, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the newly-elected
deputies will successfully fulfill all the responsibilities entrusted to them
by the people.
