At least one Vietnamese fisherman was killed and seven others are missing after a Singaporean cargo ship collided with their fishing boat around 50 nautical miles off Vung Tau Monday.
The collision between container ship Sima Sapphire and the fishing boat, which had 16 people aboard, happened at around 3 a.m. The boat sank and the Sima Sapphire only managed to rescue eight of the fishermen.
It also found the body of the dead man.
After the ship radioed about the accident, the Marine Search and Rescue Center No. 3 sent two rescue vessels to the site.
The center also called on all vessels in the area to search for the missing people.
At least four foreign ships and several Vietnamese fishing boats have responded to the request.
