One person killed, one injured in torrential rain in Quang Ninh

One person has been killed and another injured in a landslide triggered by torrential rainfall of up to 500mm which has been plaguing the northern province of Quang Ninh over the past few days.
A dyke collapsed onto the house of a 53 year-old man in Halong City's Hong Gai Ward on July 5, who then died in hospital from serious injuries.

A woman in Bai Chay Ward was washed away yesterday in the flash flood and is now in critical condition in hospital.
Heavy rain has been continued throughout the evening of July 5, submerging Highway 18 running through Cai Lan Port and hundreds of houses in Cam Pha City and Ha Long City's Bai Chay Ward.

Floods have also been seen on several rivers including Ka Long, Tai Chi, Ha Coi.
Torrential rainfall of up to 250mm has also blanketed some other provinces in the north since July 4, putting many localities on high alert for landslides and flash floods.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting yesterday said heavy rains would mainly hit Quang Ninh, Haiphong, Son La, Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Ha Giang until the end of July 6.
To prepare for the situation, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has sent an urgent message ordering local authorities to closely monitor the developments following the heavy rain, especially an increase in the water level in streams and rivers.
Local authorities are being asked to evacuate residents that could be hit by flash floods and landslides to safer places.
