ASEAN conference on women and child rights
Danang City is currently
hosting an ASEAN conference on promoting the rights of women and children,
running from August 20-22.
The conference, a
collaboration between the ASEAN-Vietnam Commission on the Promotion and
Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (CPPRWC) and the UN Women's
Pacific Office (UNWPO), discusses ASEAN's implementation of recommendations
from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the UN Committee
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEAFDW.
As well as providing a forum for ASEAN representatives to share the experiences and challenges of following the rights committees' guidance, the conference also consolidates the relationship between the ASEAN-Vietnam CPPRWC and the UNWPO. The three-day event will canvass global opinion on the rights of women, preventing crimes against children, and the social cancer of domestic violence. Participants summarised some successful child violence prevention initiatives and programmes offering reproductive health services to teenagers. Dialogues will include the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence Against Children, and members of the CEAFDW, CRC, and ASEAN CPPRWC. Conference delegates will inspect a women's rights initiative operating in Quang Source: VOV |
