Italy is willing to train and improve professional skills for Vietnamese traffic police, newswire Vietnamplus reported.
Santo Puccia, vice director of the National Traffic Police Bureau of Italy, made the statement during his meeting on February 2 in Rome with a delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security’s General Police Department of Administrative and Social Order Management, led by General Director Lieutenant General To Thuong.
Vietnamplus reporters in Rome quoted Puccia as saying that Italian traffic police can help train Vietnamese traffic cops in managing, patrolling in road routes as well as in cooperating with other agencies in solving traffic-related issues.
Italian police are also willing to help their Vietnamese counterpart in using advanced technologies in controlling key roads, creating 24-hour information processing centers as well as establishing emergency centers to update traffic information continuously and directly to drivers.
Besides, Italian traffic police are also experienced in organizing communication campaigns for traffic safety in the community, especially among youngsters.
For his part, besides expressing his hope to get the help and support from the Italian side, Lt. Gen. To Thuong highlighted that the experience of Italian traffic police is very crucial for Vietnam to ensure traffic safety.
Italy currently has a total number of 12,000 traffic police officers who conduct around 1,500 patrols along nearly 7,000 km of expressways and over 20,000 km of national roads each day.
