Film schedule and places to pick up free tickets in all cities.
The Festival Films
• Opening with “Barbara” the Festival presents thestory of a woman torn between two countries, the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany andlikewise between two men. “Four days in May” looks at a different chapter of German history. Yearning for the approaching end of World War 2, a rare convergence between Russian soldiers and German civilians emerges when the Soviet Army occupies an orphanage. The documentary “Sound of Heimat – Germany sings!” provides an insight into the lively, inventive and creative traditional German music scene.
• The coexistence of different cultures is a topic addressed in the movie “Kaddish for a friend”. Set in Berlin, it portraits the development of an exceptional friendship between a Palestinian boy and a Jewish World War 2 Veteran.
• Of course comedy and love are part of the program: “Vincent wants to Sea” is a road movie, showing Vincent, who suffers from Tourette-Syndrome, Marie, who has an eating disorder and the extremely neurotic Alex on their adventurous escape from a nursing home.
• Drama is not missing either. “Stopped on track” deals with the process of dying in the familiar circle and alone, apart from hospitals and terminal care. In “Home for the weekend” the unexpected healing of Marko’s mother from a long mental illness turns out as a crucial test for the whole family. The post-apocalyptic thriller “Hell” gives an impression of a world where the sun has turned the earth into a lifeless wasteland where humans struggle to survive.
• Entertainment for the whole family is offered with “Victor and the secret of Crocodile Mansion”, a movie telling the story of Victor, trying to solve the puzzle around the death of his cousin Cäcilie. Being fed up with humans destroying their habitat, the animals in “Animals United – Adventure in Africa” hold a conference to finally stop man made climate change.
The German Film Festival 2013 promises a great selection of films with many exciting, touching and inspiring moments for cineastes and for the whole family.
