Trang out of ITF junior event
Dao Minh Trang of Viet Nam was ousted from the International Tennis Federation Junior Circuit in HCM City.
Trang was stopped at the semi-final round where she lost 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 to No 3 seed Mimi Levine of the US in the girls' singles event.
Levine then failed to take the title after she was retired in the final match when the score was 6-1, 2-6, 0-1 against Napharat Swangkaew of Thailand.
The boys' title went to Suphawit Sae-oui, also from Thailand, who easily won after teammate Suthinan Tanthaseraneewat retired.
The boys' doubles winners were Sahil Deshmukh and Eric Olivarez. Also, sisters Chatmanee Junkeaw and Napawee Junkeaw won the girls' doubles gold.
Tien Minh knocked out of Chinese Taipei Open
Vietnamese top player Nguyen Tien Minh was knocked out of the Chinese Taipei Open badminton tourney after suffering a harrowing defeat to Hong Kong’s No.10 seed Wei Nan in the quarter-final round on July 18.
Tien Minh entered the quarter-final match a heavy favourite as he had trounced the Kong Hong rival Wei Nan in 2012.
Tien Minh won the first set with a convincing score of 21-16, and then faced two consecutive losses in the second and third sets (20-22 and 15-21).
The Vietnamese star player placed second at last year’s competition in Taiwan.
Tien Minh’s unsuccessful performance at the ongoing event is most certain to drop him out of the world’s top 20 in the upcoming Badminton World Federation (BWF) ratings.
That wins An Giang Cycling Cup
Nguyen Thi That displayed her power with a fifth stage win at the An Giang Television Cycling Cup on Saturday, followed by her winning the tournament title.
The national team member of the Gao Hat Ngoc Troi squad experienced no difficulties during the 75km stretch from Rach Gia City (Kien Giang Province) to Long Xuyen City (An Giang Province). She finished with a time of 1hr 59.04min, reaching an average speed of 37.794km/h.
Pham Thi Thuy Lien of Imexpharm Dong Thap 1 and Vo Thi Phuong Phi Binh Duong Environment-Water Supply and Drainage came in second and third, respectively.

Golden Racket tennis champs concludes
The 2014 Golden Racket International Table Tennis Tournament concluded on July 20 in Ho Chi Minh City, seeing the Republic of Korea team topping with two golds, two silvers and two bronzes.
Hong Kong came second with two golds and one bronze.
The tournament saw Vietnamese players’ performances improved with the highest achievement recorded in women’s singles and the men’s doubles event.
In women’s singles, Mai Hoang My Trang walked away with a bronze together with Tie Yanna of Hong Kong. In the event, Lee Ho Ching from Hong Kong took the crown after defeating Kim Yeon Ryong from the Republic of Korea (RoK).
In the men’s doubles event, the Vietnamese teams got a silver and a bronze.
Le Tien Dat, who earned a silver at the 2013 SEA Games, failed to defeat strong competitors from the RoK and Thailand when managing to pass the men’s singles quarterfinal.
The Hong Kong team, possessing world top 100 players, became champions at women’s doubles after defeating their Thai competitors.
The same day, the tennis tournament U18 ITF Group 5 also closed. The Thai team brought home three golds in men’s and women’s singles and women’s doubles, while Indian-Philippine duo won in men’s doubles.
Ha Noi 1 cruise past local rivals
Defending champions Ha Noi 1 beat Ha Noi 2, 4-1, in the opening match of the National Women's Football Championship's second leg, at Nha Trang's August 19 Stadium.
National team members Pham Hai Yen, Nguyen Thi Hoa, and Nguyen Thi Muon, and young player Nguyen Thi Xuyen each scored for the Ha Noi 1 side.
Ha Noi 2 found their only goal in the 33rd minute through striker Thai Thi Thao.
In the second match of the day, TGN Thai Nguyen beat HCM City 1-0.
In the last match of the first round of the round robin six-team tournament today Viet Nam Coal and Minerals will play Ha Nam, who are on top after the first leg.
China beat Viet Nam in volleyball tournamentcentimetres
China beat Viet Nam in straight sets 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 at the 17th Asian Women U19 Volleyball Championship in Chinese Taipei.
Vietnamese players started strong despite having an average of just 174 centimetres, compared with the Chinese team's average height of 186 . Viet Nam initially won a three-point lead before their rivals bounced back. After a timeout a few minutes into the game, China quickly tilted the scales in their favour.
China's lead continued to increase and they won the set 25-15 quickly.
China dominated Viet Nam in the first few minutes of the second set, and quickly attained a 7-0 lead. Despite a timeout call, the Vietnamese failed to recover and China continued to score easily.
Viet Nam slowly adapted to China's game and bagged a few points. But their efforts were futile as China won the second set 25-15.
The third set began with Viet Nam taking control early. But China fought back and won the set 25-9.
With a 2-0 record, China has already qualified for the quarter-final round and will play New Zealand, which has not won a single game yet, today. Viet Nam will play Kazakhstan to reserve a berth in the top eight from pool B.
