Lieutenant-General Vo Van Tuan, deputy commander of the Vietnamese People’s Army, said on May 1 the body of Captain Nguyen Anh Tu had been recovered in the same area where divers found the body of Lieutenant-Colonel Le Van Nghia in the remains of the cockpit of his crashed jet on April 28.
Major-General Do Minh Tuan, air defense deputy commander, said the search was continuing for debris, particularly the flight recorders, from the two fighter jets, which apparently collided mid-air on April 16 about 15km north of Phu Quy Island.
The jets were on a training exercise from Air Division 370, based at Thanh Son Military Airport in Ninh Thuan Province, at 11.45am on April 16 when their signals were lost.
Fishermen reported seeing the jets collide and crash into the sea. They did not see any parachutes.
