A man and a
woman were killed when a house of around 30 years old collapsed in Hanoi
early on Thursday morning.
The
four-story house in the Old Quarter reportedly fell down at 3:15 a.m. when
there were 11 people inside.
Seven
managed to escape, two of them with injuries.
Hundreds
of police and soldiers were sent to rescue the other four. But only two of
them survived and were rushed to hospital.
The
bodies of the two victims had been recovered by noon.
The
house, of more than 50 square meters, was built in the 1980s. Police said it did not have a strong
foundation.
There
was a shop selling pork pie on the ground floor. Its employees slept
upstairs.
Hanoi authorities have asked people living
nearby to move as the collapse has left cracks on at least one house next
door.
They said nearby construction activities and
heavy rains in recent days are possible causes. Investigation is going on.
