My Van to appear on L’Officiel

 My Van to appear on L’Officiel, Italian DJ to perform at Madake Bar, Electronic concert to feature UK's Nic Ford, Trio presents jazz music at Decibel Lounge, Activist to pedal from HCM City to Paris, Global rivals prepare for Danang fireworks festival

The first runner-up of Vietnam’s Next Top Model 2012 contest Kha My Van will appear on French fashion magazine L’Officiel.
Van has been chosen after competing with hundreds of international models in Milan, Italy.
L’Officiel is a French fashion magazine which has been published in Paris since 1921 and targets upper-income, educated women aged 25 to 49.
In 2006, it had a circulation of 101,719. A men’s edition of L’Officiel, L’Officiel Hommes, and many foreign editions are also published. The complete name of the magazine is “L’Officiel de la couture et de la mode de Paris”.
Van began her career as a professional model in Milan, Italy in January 2015. She was chosen to appear on the Italian Vogue-a world’s leading fashion magazine and in the latest collections of some famous fashion brands, including Elisabetta Franchi and Label2.
Van is scheduled to come back to Vietnam in early April. She plans to act as a professional model in other foreign countries.
Italian DJ to perform at Madake Bar
An audio-visual performance featuring Italian DJ and producer Marco Effe will be held at Madake Bar in Tay Ho on Saturday, March 21.
Using sculptural work of scenographer Bad GraFX, the visuals will react and evolve with the music spinning.
Currently based in Berlin, Effe has played at leading techno clubs around the world and is known for his ability to woo crowds.
Together with Marco Effe, DJs Ali and Maggi will scratch their turntable to heat up the night.
Entrance is VND100,000. Madake is at 81 Xuan Dieu Street, Tay Ho District.
Electronic concert to feature UK's Nic Ford
A night of electronic music will be held at The Observatory on March 21.
The show will open with local DJ duo Cheezy Gangztaz performing a mixture of hip hop, funk and soul. Highlight of the night is Saigon-based audio and visual electronic band Space//Panther.
The performance of British music producer Nic Ford who has played electric and underground music for 15 years will end the show.
The event will begin at 9 pm at 5 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in District 1. Entrance is free before midnight, and VND150,000 afterwards.
New book features Vietnamese generals through their eyes
The Army Publishing House, in co-operation with Thai Ha Book Company, has released the first book of a series on the life and career of Vietnamese generals to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the country's Liberation Day (April 40) and 70th anniversary of National Day, September 2.
The collection is titled Tuong Linh Viet Nam The Ky XX Qua Loi Ke Cua Nguoi Than (Stories of Generals of the Vietnamese People's Army in the 20th century).
It features articles written by the relatives of 15 military giants, including Nguyen Chi Thanh, Van Tien Dung and Le Duc Anh, whose military careers are closely intertwined with the victories of the Viet Nam People's Army during the French and American wars.
The 362-page book includes photographs never before published.
Graffiti workshop to open this weekend
A Sunday graffiti workshop hosted by Vietnamese-French artist Suby One and American illustrator Frenemy will begin on Sunday at Saigon Outcast.
The three-week workshop, held on Sundays from 1- 3pm, will include three classes on basic drawing and designing for painting, letter drawing and lettering in graffiti and character design. Each workshop session will have a maximum of five students.
Suby One (Bui Ngoc Trang), a graffiti artist for 20 years, is self-taught. He moved to HCM City last year.
Frenemy, whose real name is Kristopher Kotcher, has practised graffiti and street art for 12 years, starting with traditional letter-form graffiti and more recently character street art.
Registrations for the workshop can be made at frenemylife@yahoo.com. Cost is VND900,000. The venue is located at 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong Street in District 2.
Trio presents jazz music at Decibel Lounge
Peche la Mouche (Fly Fishing), an acoustic gypsy jazz trio, will hold a music performance at Decibel Lounge on March 20.
The band, consisting of guitarists Nico and Matt and bassist Jacky, will present jazz songs from the 20s and 30s such as All of Me and Minor Swing.
The show will start at 9pm at 79/2/5 Phan Ke Binh Street in District 1. Admission is free.
Goethe Institut to screen award-winning films
On the evenings from March 23 to 25, the Goethe Institut in Ha Noi will present the multiple award-winning films of director and screenwriter Hannes Stohr, including Berlin Is in Germany, One Day in Europe and Global Player.
The films reflect the changes Germany from the fall of the Berlin Wall to globalisation. Especially, the director will present his films and have a discussion with the public afterwards.
The free screening will start at 7pm.
Stohr will also conduct workshops for young film-makers. Topics will include how to develop a film from the first idea to the screenplay, financing and directing, and finishing the film.
Activist to pedal from HCM City to Paris
On Saturday, BikeNBrunch will have climate-change activist Simon Nelson as special guest. Nelson will soon set off on a bike ride from HCM City to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.
The aim of his trip is to raise awareness of catastrophic climate change and to inspire people to take action to stop it.
The BikeNBrunch event will start at Daluva Restaurant and Bar at 33 To Ngoc Van Street, Tay Ho District, Ha Noi, from 8.45am. To register, email ole@exoticvoyages.com.
Hanoi to celebrate German Film Days
The Goethe Institute will screen three award-winning films of well-known director Hannes Stohr in Hanoi on three consecutive evenings, March 23-25, on the occasion of German Film Days.
The three films – Berlin is in German, One Day in Europe, and Global Player – reflect the changes Germany has undergone from the fall of the Berlin Wall to globalization.
The director will introduce his films and hold an exchange with the public afterwards.
Entry to the event is free.
Global rivals prepare for Danang fireworks festival
The Danang International Fireworks Competition 2015 (DIFC 2015) will kick off in the central city on March 28, drawing five teams.
Named “Danang - Symphony of Colours,” the competition will be held along the banks of the Han River.
The five teams are Fireworks for Africa (South Africa), Pyrotechnics (the US), Howard & Son Fireworks (Australia), Surex Fima Rodzinna (Poland), and the host team Danang - Vietnam
A main grandstand containing 32,000 seats will be set up opposite the performance site at the Danang Port.
Numerous art performances, beach games and fashion shows also will be held during the two-day festival.
Next month, a festival of light will take place for the first time in the city. Light shows will be performed from 18:00 to 22:00 on April 24-26.
Vietnam attends Francophonie Culture Week in Pakistan
The Vietnamese Embassy has joined representative agencies from 15 other countries to showcase traditional culture at the 2015 Francophonie Week in Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad.
The participating countries, all members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, include Austria, Belgium, France, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, and Canada.
Among items the Vietnamese embassy brought to the event are delicate handicrafts and paintings, including a map of Vietnam made of rice grains, replicas of an ancient bronze drum and a “xich lo” (cyclo), and some typical examples of Vietnamese cuisine.
Meanwhile, a documentary will be screened exploring lives in the country’s traditional craft villages.
Through activities held over the course of the festival, which opened on March 16 and will run until March 21, the embassy hopes to promote the Vietnamese identity and highlight the country’s achievements in national development over the past few decades.
The event is being held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.
CGV cinemas first to bring the IMAX experience to Vietnam
IMAX Corporation and CJ CGV Holdings Limited just announced an expansion of the companies' partnership with the addition of two IMAX® theatres to be located in Vietnam, marking IMAX’s entry into the country.

Super blockbuster in 2015 with the return of the Heroes of Marvel comic has conquered millions of viewers around the world as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk or Thor. In this section, the Heroes have to face Ultron, a dangerous enemy and be risk of internal dissent. The movie is expected many eye-catching actions and fighting.  And this is highlight movie of this summer. The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be officially released in Vietnam one day earlier than in North America and other parts of the world.
Jurassic World (Release: 12.06)
With $150 million investment, Jurassic World is the significant comeback of the giant dinosaurs once used to be introduced to audiences by the legendary director Steven Spielberg from the 1990s. Coming up to IMAX, Jurassic World is expected to bring a lively adventure and most voyeuristic to audience in the middle of a hot summer.
Terminator: Genesis (Release: 03.07)
Terminator: Genesis – part 5 of Terminator is back of super star Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this part, audience will see Terminator T-800 in human shape. With introduction budget reaching $170 billion, Terminator: Genesis has the participation of some stars joining in this series for the first time as: Emilia Clarke (TV series Game of Thrones) and Jai Courtney (Die Hard 5).
Photo contest launched for 2015 National Tourism year
A photography contest themed ‘2015 National Tourism Year – Thanh Hoa’ was officially launched on March 18 in the central province of Thanh Hoa for professional and amateur photographers across the country.
The contest aims to introduce the tourism industry of Vietnam, particularly Thanh Hoa province, and contribute to promoting the co-ordination of provinces and cities with world heritage sites to develop tourism.
Works submitted must be previously unpublished photos reflecting the beauty of world heritage sites in Vietnam and in the province, as well as events of this year’s National Tourism Year.
Entries will be divided into three main categories: 2015 National Tourism Year – Thanh Hoa and its events; the land and people of Thanh Hoa province and the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty World Heritage site.
Each photographer can submit one or more colour or black and white photo on CD to Thanh Hoa provincial newspaper on Ly Nam De street, Dong Huong district from March 20 to October 30.
The organising board will present a special, a first, two second, three third and 10 consolation prizes to the most outstanding photos.
