A resolution on the Long Thanh International Airport project was adopted by the National Assembly deputies with an 86.64 percent rate of approval on the morning of June 25.

While approving the investment, the resolution requires more specific plans on land clearance and the resettlement for people who have to move to make way for the airport.

It also suggests the Government invest in building infrastructure and auxiliary facilities serving the project and the transport system linking with the airport, as well as assessing the project construction’s impact on the environment and balancing investments so as not to cause negative impact on public debt.

The resolution approves the building of the Long Thanh airport in southern Dong Nai province into the nation’s important international airport with the first phase goal of reducing the overload of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, and later on becoming one of the region’s aviation hubs.

Once completed, the airport has the capacity of serving 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of goods per year.

The total investment estimate for the project, which will be built in three phases, will be over 336 trillion VND (16 billion USD), in which the amount for the first phase will be more than 114 trillion VND (5.45 billion USD).

Also in the morning, lawmakers also adopt the Law on Sea and Island Natural Resources and Environment and the revised Law on State Budget.-VNA
