Thailand’s first constitution draft unveiled

Bangkok - The first draft of the new constitution of Thailand was unveiled by the country’s Constitution Drafting Committee on January 29. 

The constitution contains 270 sections grouped into 15 chapters, covering general provisions; the monarchy; rights and liberties; duties of the people; duties of the state; state policies; parliament; cabinet; conflicts of interests; courts; constitutional court, among others. 

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchupan said the draft was based on the framework of the interim constitution 2014 and described it as the “reform constitution” with focus on suppressing corruption. 

Once being approved, this will mark the 20th constitution in Thailand over the past 84 years-VNA
