National carrier Vietnam Airlines has requested stern punishment for two passengers who assaulted a female employee at a major airport in Hanoi.
Tran Duong Tung, 32, and Dao Vinh Thuan, 37, two passengers on flight VN7265 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, were investigated for attacking Nguyen Le Quynh Anh, a Vietnam Airlines airport service deputy, at Noi Bai International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
According to security camera footage, Anh was restrained by one of the passengers while the other repeatedly hit her on the head with what appears to be a tablet.
Two other male passengers were infuriated by the action and assaulted the two attackers, leading to a confrontation between the four men.
Airport security officers arrived shortly after the incident, escorting the four individuals to their office at the airdrome.
Police officers were asked to assist in the investigation amidst Tung and Thuan’s continued aggression and refusal to cooperate.
According to the report, Anh and Ta Duc Giang, an airport supervisor who witnessed the entire incident, were monitoring security procedures on the second floor of Terminal T1 prior to the attack.
The two employees approached Tung and Thuan in the security scanning area after the two passengers missed their flight.
Following Giang and Anh’s explanation on how to resolve the problem, the two passengers continued to verbally abuse the staffers.
Anh began filming the incident with her smartphone before being grabbed by Thuan and beaten by Tung, Giang recounted.
Anh was later admitted to a local hospital for a health check, the airport supervisor added.
During an interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, a representative from the Northern Airports Authority said the case was still being clarified.
Meanwhile, Tran Dang Hai, chief inspector at the Hanoi Department of Transport, affirmed that he was verifying reports that Thuan is an inspector at the department.
