Fire engulfs Pho Hien market

A large fire has burnt down Pho Hien Market in northern Hung Yen Province and caused an estimated loss of VND100 billion (USD4.8 million).
Ngo Van Trung, a resident in the area, said many neighbours saw the fire breaking out at around 8pm on March 19. He said, "People tried to extinguish the fire, called firefighters and asked power company to shutdown the electricity. But the fire just got bigger and scared a lot of people."

Dozens of traders gathered outside while the fire was covering the whole 29,000 square of metres market. Despite the efforts of more than 10 fire trucks, the fire was still out of control until 1am this morning. The police of Hung Yen Province had to ask for help from firefighters in neighbouring provinces and cities of Hanoi, Ha Nam and Hai Duong.
Pho Hien Market was restored last December with a total investment of VND300 billion. The estimated losses from the fire is around VND100 billion. Many people said that firefighters arrived late and lots of fire hydrants on the street run out of water.

Dang Van Thien, owner of a textile booth, said, "Everything was normal when I left at 6pm. When I heard about the fire, I came there immediately but saw no fire trucks so I used two fire extinguishers inside the market but they did not work. We tried the fire hydrants nearby but they did not work either."
Thien went on to say that the market guards did not do their job properly because they did not detect the fire soon enough.

Another trader Nguyen Thi Bich said the fire had engulfed the textile section when she arrived. She and her daughter-in-law had two booths but both had been burnt down. "I don't know how to survive the next days. We all depended on these two booths," she added, "I think someone used the water pumps and caused the fire."
Deputy head of the police force of Hung Yen Province Dao Huu Liem said the firefighters received the news at around 9:25pm and deployed 6 trucks to the scene quickly. 30 minutes later, 18 fire trucks from other provinces also arrived. "We did everything we can upon hearing about the fire. Any criticism and tips from the people will be taken into consideration, he said.
