The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is considered the rebirth of the German automaker’s luxury super-sedan series, with only 50 limited editions to be manufactured in 2015, according to Mercedes-Benz Vietnam. A Mercedes-Maybach S600 has arrived in the Southeast Asian country to be displayed as part of a debut ceremony to be hosted globally early next month. Vietnamese buyers have placed more than ten orders for the sedan at a whopping VND9.6 billion (US$451,850) each, with all taxes included, according to Mercedes-Benz Vietnam. The highest price a Mercedes sedan fetches in the EU is only $166,700, according to Bloomberg. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is a member of the S-Class family, which Mercedes sees as “the highest-quality vehicle in the world.” The sedan is described as “a new level of hand-crafted refinement, personalization and prestige,” the Stuttgart-based automaker said on its website. Mercedes is hoping its all-new Maybach will be a tough competitor to British luxury carmakers Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The ultra-luxury Mercedes car brand is owned by German multinational automotive corporation Daimler AG. In November 2011, Daimler said that Maybach would cease to be a brand by 2013 and manufactured the last Maybach vehicle in December 2012. This was due to poor sales, with only 3,000 cars sold since the brand's revival in 2002. In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach marquee as Mercedes-Maybach, an ultra luxury edition of the much celebrated Mercedes-Benz S-Class, according to Bloomberg. The new Maybach is hoped to win wealthy consumers in Asia from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Vietnam is considered one of the strongest developing markets in Asia by Mercedes-Benz, according to Nikkei Asia Reviews. In the first six months of last year, more than 1,100 Mercedes cars were sold in Vietnam, the most impressive sale since it entered the country in 2006. In October of last year alone, Mercedes sales in Vietnam topped a record 200 units, according to Nikkei Asia Reviews. The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is eight inches (20.32cm) longer than the standard S-Class, providing generous legroom for rear passengers, according to Mercedes. The sedan will offer seven unique design interior packages to choose from, with its unparalleled comfort and sophistication highlighted by hand-stitched Nappa leather throughout the interior – including the headliner, pillars and entire seats – with optional seat buttons, pillows and pillow stitching on the dashboard. “In addition to a palette of 14 standard Manufaktur exterior paints developed using a special process, the Maybach S600 will feature eight additional exclusive paint colors,” Mercedes says of the broad spectrum of personalization options on its flagship sedan.
